VALUATIONS

Why can´t I find a value for my car?
Answer :
Cars may not have a valuation if they are less than 6 months or more than 9 years old, or the mileage is less than 10,000 or exceeds 150,000 miles. We do not provide values for imported vehicles, low-volume, specialist or limited edition vehicles, kit cars or vehicles in short supply.

Why is my insurance company offering me a different value?
Answer :
Insurance companies take into account the actual condition of the car at the time of the accident/incident, and adjust the valuation accordingly. All valuations on this web site are based on a single transaction with a bona fide motor dealer involving the sale of the consumer´s car in part exchange for the purchase of a different car from the same dealer. Values are not cash values, replacement prices or insurance settlements and therefore must not be used for any other valuation purposes whatsoever.

Why is the dealer offering me a different trade-in price?
Answer :
There could be many reasons, for instance, the dealer might have given you extra discount on the car you are buying, it may depend on how much he can get for it on the forecourt (demand), he may have a large stock of that model, his view of the condition may be different to your own, it may be the time of year. You always have the option of going to a different dealer.

Why is there a difference between the Trade-in and Retail Values?
Answer :
The trade in price (the amount a dealer pays you) differs from the retail price (the price a dealer may advertise the car for) because a dealer has the following costs and considerations: refurbishment, valeting, servicing, stocking, storage, warranty, administration, title checks, profit, advertising & VAT.

Why can´t I find a value for my bike?
Answer :
Bikes may not have a valuation if they are: outside the age range 6 months to 9 years old, specialist or limited edition vehicles, vehicles in short supply or rare vehicles.

FINDING CARS BY REGISTRATION NUMBER

What happens if my registration number cannot be found?
Answer :
There may be a number of reasons related to data linking that mean Glass's valuation data cannot be linked to your registration number. This does not mean that the DVLA record is incorrect. If you cannot identify your vehicle through the number plate lookup, you should be able to select easily from the Make and Model information supplied within the 'Advanced Search' option

Where does the number plate information come from?
Answer :
Number plate information comes from DVLA records, and is then linked to Glass's data as part of the lookup process.

What information is supplied by DVLA to Glass's when I submit my number plate?
Answer :
Only information about the vehicle’s make, model and specification is supplied in order for us to provide this service. No personal information is requested or provided. Our use of information retrieved conforms to the data protection act please see our Privacy Policy for more details.
