Lexus
The Lexus Brand launched in the USA in 1989 with UK sales starting the following year. In terms of scale, its beginnings were modest: just one model was offered for sale, the Lexus LS400. Its impact, however, was exceptional, changing people’s perception of what a luxury car should be.
The aim of Lexus was to build cars that could challenge the finest established marques in terms of quality and performance and to create a brand that would deliver unparalleled levels of customer care and service. The result now is a range of Lexus models that deliver exceptional refinement, smoothness, reliability and unmatched specification winning Lexus a host of international awards.
The Lexus model range has developed steadily with the introduction of the GS300 in 1993 and the IS200 compact saloon in 1999. A revision to the LS400, the LS430 arrived in 2000 and a year later the SC430 in 2001. Lexus entered the 4x4 market in 2003 with the RX300 fulfilling a line up of vehicles that met a broad range of modern driving tastes and styles, but this growth has not detracted from the principles of quality, performance and attention to detail which are fundamental to Lexus.
In 2005, Lexus became the first premium manufacturer to bring a hybrid model to market, the Lexus RX400h luxury SUV. The instant success of that vehicle was followed by the introduction of the Lexus GS450h, the world’s first full hybrid power rear wheel drive car. And in October 2007 the Lexus range gained a new flagship model, the Lexus LS600h, a limousine offering the ultimate in luxury and performance with a world-first V8 all-wheel drive hybrid powertrain. With their ability to run solely on electric motors Lexus hybrids are able to offer power figures to match larger engine cars yet deliver low CO2 and better fuel economy.
Lexus will continue to develop and remain at the forefront of hybrid vehicle technology for the future.
