Ford
The Ford Motor Company was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford and has four brands under its umbrella - Ford itself, Mercury, Lincoln and Volvo – as well as a controlling stake in Mazda.
Ford builds vehicles all over Europe and is one of the world’s largest car manufacturers. Models such as the Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta are amongst the most popular in the UK.
Ford has a rich motor-racing heritage, from the multiple Le Mans winning Ford GT40 of the 1960s, to rallying with the Ford Escort and latterly the Ford Focus and also provided engines to many Formula One teams from the 1960s to relatively recently.
Classic Fords range from the Ford Capri and Ford Cortina of the 1970s to the Escort, Granada and Sierra on the 1980s to the Ford Puma of the 1990s.
Ford’s extensive model range includes the Ford Ka, the Ford Fiesta, the Ford Fusion, the Ford Focus, the Ford C-Max, S-Max and Galaxy people carriers and the Ford Mondeo.
Along with many manufacturers, Ford is investing in environmentally friendly technology, the first of which to make it to market is Ford ECOnetic which will initially be available in Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus ranges and uses more aerodynamic bodywork, specially developed low-resistance tyres and tuned engines to achieve lower CO2 emissions and higher mpg figures.
