Citroen
Citroen was founded in 1919 by Andre Citroen and is part of PSA Peugeot Citroen.
Citroen launched the world’s first front-wheel drive car, the Traction Avant in 1934, and other iconic Citroens from the past include the Citroen 2CV, the Citroen DS, the Citroen SM and the Citroen CX.
Citroen cars of this era were packed with ground-breaking technology, most notably the hydro-pneumatic self-levelling suspension found in the Citroen DS and other models from 1955.
Since its acquisition by Peugeot in the late 1970s, Citroen has shared common platforms with equivalent Peugeot models – the exception being the BX. PSA’s strategy from the 1990s until recently saw Citroen positioned as an economy brand, although newer models such as the Citroen C4, Citroen C5 and Citroen C6 are helping to reverse car buyers’ perceptions, incorporating many features that hark back to Citroen’s past as an innovator.
Popular models from the last decade include the Citroen Xsara, and Xsara Picasso, the Citroen Xantia and Saxo and the current 11 model range is comprised Citroen C1 and C2, Citroen C3 and C3 Pluriel, Citroen C4, C4 Picasso and C4 Grand Picasso, Citroen C5, Citroen C6, Citroen C8 and Citroen C-Crosser.
