New Vauxhall Insignia - replacing the Vectra - debuts at the British Motorshow
Vauxhall will showcase four-door saloon and five-door hatchback versions of the new Insignia for the first time at the British International Motor Show
Both Insignia body styles boast a flowing, muscular, yet elegant silhouette with a coupe roofline. Designers deliberately created similar versions to retain the beauty of Vauxhall's latest mid-sized car. The length of both the saloon and hatchback - 4830mm - and the wheelbase of 2737mm remain the same.Offering hatchback, as well as saloon derivatives, from the start is particularly important for the UK, where 5-door cars traditionally enjoy a high market share of the mid-size class segment.
The Insignia's fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and driving dynamics benefit from the aerodynamic efficiency that was perfected during more than 650 hours in the wind tunnel. The result: a class-leading drag coefficient of 0.27.
Five engines will be available for both Insignia hatch and saloon, all of which meet Euro 5 emissions standards and come coupled with six-speed transmissions. The three petrol engines range from a four-cylinder 140PS unit to a V6 with 260PS. Two new 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo-diesels exclusively developed for the Insignia have power outputs spanning from 130 to 160PS.
The newly developed chassis can be enhanced with the innovative FlexRide system, as well as the sophisticated Adaptive 4x4. Its lightning-fast distribution of torque over the four wheels ensures peerless stability and traction while benefiting dynamic performance.
