Older examples of upper-medium cars, such as the Honda Accord and Ford Mondeo, are more likely to find willing buyers at this time of year, as the minicab trade gears up for Christmas.

Minicab drivers are drawn to this vehicle sector as it offers space, practicality and, increasingly, affordability – a key factor as they look to maximise profits during their busiest season.

While younger models struggle to find buyers and retain their value, older upper-mediums are being sought out by private-hire drivers and used car traders, leading to a mini-revival in fortunes for the segment.

When the supply of such cars dries up, we expect buyers’ attentions to turn to cheap, large MPVs. Models with a Volkswagen TDi engine, such as older iterations of the Seat Alhambra and VW Sharan, are particularly popular and should enjoy a slight surge in demand up to and during December, after which time interest will gradually wane.
