Prospects for the Audi A5
The Audi A5 is forecast to achieve one of the strongest residual values for any Audi in the current range
Potential customers looking for similar levels of functionality and style as the Audi TT and R8 models, yet with the option to seat four adults, have previously been left with little choice but to opt for a BMW 3-Series coupe or a Mercedes-Benz CLK. The introduction of the A5 in 2007 enabled Audi to fill a gap in the range that had previously been occupied by the Audi Coupe, but which ceased production in 1996.Arguably more grand-tourer than sports coupe, the A5 benefits from bold exterior design and a spacious interior, a move that ensures its appeal on the used car market to a wide customer-base requiring a blend of style and space.
Launched with a number of petrol and diesel engine options, including the range-topping 4.2 V8 S5, the 3.0 TDi is arguably the pick of the range and features the renowned quattro 4WD system. With 240ps and 500Nm of torque on tap, yet still returning very reasonable fuel consumption, this model has proved popular for both new and used cars buyers alike.
This popularity is reflected in the vehicle’s secondhand prospects. After three years and 60,000 miles the Audi 3.0 TDi Quattro is expected to retain 51 per cent of its original list price, a stronger forecast than any Audi, and higher than that achieved by rivals from both BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
