BMW and Fiat co-operate on new model development

BMW and Fiat have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop platforms and engines that could be used across their respective Mini and Alfa Romeo marques.

The co-operation over the use of vehicle components is a growing trend among carmakers as they strive to achieve economies of scale and cost reductions.

Both BMW and Fiat already have a number of alliances with other carmakers.
