Millions of drivers ignorant over meaning of dashboard warning lights

Seven million British motorists are risking wrecking their cars by ignoring dashboard warning lights on their vehicles.

Widespread ignorance of what lights the lights signify - including checking oil pressure, the engine management system, the brake warning lights, battery charge warning and tyre pressure - means they are likely to land themselves with costly repair bills.

A quarter of UK drivers say they have continued driving despite being warned of potential problems with their cars, compromising their safety and that of other drivers.

A survey of 1,500 UK motorists by tyre maker Bridgestone has revealed the lack of knowledge.
