Japanese Grey Imports

I have a query in respect of your valuations for Japanese cars. This is in connection with a dispute over an insurance claim

My insurer is quoting a value from your guide for a Subaru Imprezas WRX 5 door which is well below the value of cars advertised on the Subaru website as approved vehicles of the same age and description. My car war written off after being hit by a Japanese grey imported Mitsubishi FTO on a test drive! Do you distinguish between genuine UK original vehicles in your values or is it an irony that I am suffering a double whammy from these cheaper grey imports?

Hi, sorry to hear of your problems.

We don't value imports, we only research and value UK cars and our values are for cars in average to good condition.

Our numbers are a guide and not the be all and end all. The normal procedure in a case where there is a dispute over market value, is that you would send in details you have found of similar cars to yours fetching much more money than the insurers are offering, and then they either accept the argument or you appeal the decision with the FOS, who ultimately regulate your insurer. I wil pass your feedback on values to the Subaru editor.

Yours sincerely,

John Glynn
