Porsche Boxster valuation needed

I would like to get a valuation for my Porsche Boxster which also has additional features such as climate control, full leather interior, on-board computer etc.

However, I cannot find Porsche on the site. Can you please advise. I am aware that Glass's do provide such valuations and I would appreciate some direction. I have an insurance agent who assures me that the valuations he has represented to me yesterday were from Glass's. Thank you.

Hi Dexter

We do value Porsches, but the difficulty in valuing them on the Consumer Website has traditionally being getting the cars, which we book as half-mileage vehicles, to fit into a standard mileage table. Until that is done we cannot value them properly online.

Our Market Intelligence unit have developed a new mileage reporting system which addresses this problem, but it will not be in use until after testing, which will probably take a few weeks yet.

If your Boxster is average (i,e, not low) miles for the year, then it is likely that the insurers have made an adjustment themselves to calculate the mileage difference. Alternatively they maye have used our subscriber 'hotline' to get an opinion on mileage from the Porsche editor. A good place for opinion on the value of any Porsche is your local OPC or independent specialist, and a written price opinion from them would go a long way in any dispute that arose.

I see you are in Fulham, so the obvious choice for an opinion would be Charles Ivey on Hurlingham Road, by the side of Putney Bridge tube. Have you spoken to a dealer about what your car is worth? What was the offer from your insurers? We don't get into the middle of insurance disputes as we must remin independent in such situations, but as you have found a fellow Porsche owner, if you send the numbers over I'll have a look for you. I would only give my own opinion though, not that of Glass's.

John,

Many thanks for this comprehensive advice. I will visit Charles Ivey on the weekend (problem is that they won't be able to see the car though). At the moment, I don't actually have a dispute, I'm really just attempting to get a reasonably accurate market valuation. I've never done this before so I started with Glass's since the insurance engineer quoted them as his authority, that's when I ran into this issue.

My car is low mileage, it's 21,000mls and registration January 2001. I bought it brand new from Porsche and it has had all regular services only from Porsche. The add-ons are metallic paint, 17" Boxster wheels, full leather interior, on-board computer, cruise control, air conditioning (climate control), electric seats, and CDR-32 with 6 speaker sound system.

The insurance engineer has proposed a valuation of £15,700 (which they will send in writing shortly), which they say match the spec on Glass's system (£13,000 for Trade and £15,750 for Retail). The only other sort of professional opinion I have had was the engineer from Porsche when inspecting the damage on the vehicle mentioned roughly £18,000, and he was not aware of the mileage at that time (I did not actually know this could be a factor until I started researching on the internet).

Once I get a response from Charles Ivey I will send that over to you and I would really appreciate your own personal opinion. Are those the numbers you referred to?

Kind regards,

Dexter

Hi Dexter,

The numbers I was talking about were the ones from your insurer. The values they have given you are not Guide values, and Guide mileage is 10k miles higher than your car, plus some of those options are not included, so the value is too cheap in my view. Having said that, it's a tricky market out there.
